Why Your Facebook Ads Aren’t Working (And How to Fix Them)

·6 min read

You set up Facebook ads, boosted a post or two, and… nothing. No calls, no leads, just money gone. You’re not alone — most home service businesses struggle with Facebook ads. But the fix is usually straightforward.

Problem 1: You’re Targeting Everyone

The mistake: Targeting “Everyone in a 25-mile radius.”

The fix: Layer targeting. Homeowners + specific age range (25–65) + household income bracket + interests related to home improvement. Facebook’s power is precision — use it.

Problem 2: Your Ad Looks Like an Ad

The mistake: Stock photos, corporate language, “Call now for a free estimate!”

The fix: Use real photos and videos from actual jobs. Before/after transformations. Your team at work. Speak conversationally: “We just finished this kitchen remodel in Buckhead. The homeowner couldn’t believe the difference.”

Problem 3: No Offer

The mistake: The ad doesn’t give people a reason to act now.

The fix: Lead with value. “Free AC inspection before summer.” “$50 off your first service.” “Free estimate — we’ll beat any written quote.” Give people a reason to click today, not “someday.”

Problem 4: Sending Traffic to Your Homepage

The mistake: The ad links to your generic homepage.

The fix: Create a dedicated landing page that matches the ad. If the ad is about AC repair, the landing page should be about AC repair — with a form to request service, not a navigation bar with 10 other links.

Problem 5: Giving Up Too Soon

The mistake: Running an ad for 3 days, seeing no results, and turning it off.

The fix: Facebook’s algorithm needs data to optimize. Budget at least $20–$30/day and let campaigns run for 7–14 days before judging. Test 2–3 ad variations. The algorithm will learn which audiences respond and optimize delivery toward them.

When Facebook Ads Make Sense

Facebook ads are best for awareness and demand generation — reaching homeowners before they’re actively searching. They complement Google Ads (which capture existing demand). The most effective strategy: Facebook builds awareness, Google captures the search that follows.
